Lake Tyers has many places to
launch canoes and explore.
The Trident Arm on Lake Tyers is along the main Nowa Nowa Arm and is a
popular fishing location for people with boats, but also a popular spot
with campers.
This is not a trip for beginners and these people had the right
approach travelling as a group and many of the paddlers were seasoned
canoeists.
The trip was timed at about an hour and half paddle one way, and if
anyone on the trip lreads this and would like to add some more please
email me.
The open waters of the Lake are to the south of this point so take care
if an onshore (southerly) breeze is strong.
Just keep in mind that Lake Tyers opens
to the sea from time to time and the huge, but shortlived currents cut
quite deep channels, and the water depth can change from shallow to
several metres very quickly.

Canoeing on Lake Tyers
Trident Arm to the Tavern (and back!)
This trip information was gathered by some paddlers who were
camping at Trident Arm and were into canoeing. As can be seen
from the photos there were some serious paddlers here.
The trip down from the Trident Arm to the car park in front of the
Tavern took about 90mins of unrushed paddling. The paddlers were
very comfortable with this trip having recently competed in
a community paddling event late last year. The time was
Easter 2011 and the winds were a light southerly. They were about
have the wind at their backs on the paddle home, very nice!
Nice craft, most with rudders but one without.
Crewing up to set off back to Trident Arm.
