Kites at Lake Tyers Beach

Kites are fun at the beach as the wind is often from a consistent direction, and especially if it is off the ocean there is little turbulence.

Lake Tyers Beach also has people using kite technology for boarding as well. The example below is a simple single wing, whereas other kites that have been seen are the multi-celled paravane variety.

When the lake is nearly full and the water behind the wide sandbar is high, then a good Southerly coming over the bar is ideal as there is long East-West run to enjoy.

People who like stunt kites would find plenty of space on the sandbar at Lake Tyers Beach to test their skills and not be buzzing fellow beach goers.

The lake is rather shallow at the moment which is good in one way as the kite-boarders as they can stand up often to get started, but the runs available once going full tilt run out fairly quickly as well.

I presume this lad was searching for a shallow sandbar to get onto and balance himself before lauching off.
The lake further away from the sand bar can have quickly shifting winds due to the houses and small cliffs around it creating turbulence. Probably hard to pick and difficult to master. When this was taken there was not much water in the lake and this lad was nearly inside the Fishermans Landing "arm", and even that was shallow as can be seen.
