Both these knots will be strong enough to survive a big fish, or snag up to nearly the breaking strain of the line.

More importantly they are quickly mastered and can give a beginner a sense of true independence.

Make sure all knots in your rig are tied equally strong as the weakest is the one that gives away first!

The demonstrations in the videos use heavy twine just so you can follow the moves.
In reality thin nylon filament is a  bit harder and  will test your nerves on a rocking boat or at twilight!!!  So start practicing now!!!

Moistening the line with a little saliva will help the knot slip into place and avoid any weakening burns from friction points.

If you graduate to the more exotic lines then you will need expert help.  Consult the advice offered by manufacturers for their products.
